My paintings function as a form of image-remembrance, in which ambiguous spaces feel familiar yet emotionally distant. This concept of image-remembrance is reflected in the relationship of transition and memory within my paintings. The use of the painted figure presents a tension between identity and doubt. The environments within the work possess a past and create the possibility of change. I am interested in the connection between the desire to paint and the painting process. I find that there are contradictions in painting historically and, how it is viewed currently. Paintings function and presence in the contemporary world have changed in importance and in meaning over time.
